When the Conscience Awakes

What do you do once you awaken to the harsh reality of truth and you realize that you have been going along with an Lie? When I think of it, I visualize a small child learning from touching something hot and if that child will learn from the experience. When will we as a human race STOP  letting ourselves being dragged into greed and corruption’s paths and ways?
I’m proud to see a man who looks like a member of my family become President and reelected over Mitt Romney but I just hope that the people’s love for President Barack Obama doesn’t stop the hard questions that need to be asked concerning War, Peace and real Social uplift. Will the antiwar Democrats be less motivated to say anything due to the fact that they do not want to add anymore problems to the President since he is receiving the most horrible racist hatred and threats?
These are just a few questions that have been racking my brain lately because even in High School the popular Jock can be seen as doing no wrong even when they are just because of their level of popularity. I find even myself at times hearing about the racist words against President Obama and automatically my inner being wants to defend a man whom I’ve never even met before just because I know how it feels to have racist hatred aimed at me.
The world is in a big mess right now and it will just continue to get much worse as long as silence allows it to continue. I want you to picture a elderly woman or a child being unjustifiably wronged or hurt right in front of your eyes, would you be silent and walk away or would you do something about it? This is what many do everyday when they just flip past the news stories of killings and deaths in wars, poverty and unnecessary conflicts. I used to be the same way before my Army days, only concerned about my little world and existence. All that changed for me once I witnessed Iraqi civilians being beaten by U.S. Soldiers and private contractors, while having to keep my mouth shut just so I wouldn’t become labeled a snitch. Being labeled a snitch in a war zone is not what you want and it could become very dangerous for you as well. I had to make a hard choice after I learned about the Lies of the Iraq war while I was in Iraq and what I saw with my own eyes and I made a decision that still effects me today but my mind and conscience feel free that I no longer am just going along with the program.
The Message I’m trying to get across is that the world is on fire metaphorically but how many will just stand by and watch it burn and how many will actually try to take action to put the fire out? Ladies and gentlemen the world is in trouble, so what actions small or great will you be willing to take to help bring about some real change? What will you resist, what will you protest, what will you question?
